As a Commis de Cuisine on River Cruises, you will play a crucial role in our kitchen, assisting the chefs in food preparation, cooking, and maintaining high culinary standards.

What will be your main tasks?

• Planning and preparing the breakfast buffet and ensuring a good presentation of the food.
• Preparing and portioning meal ingredients, which include seasoning of different meats and fish as well as washing, peeling and chopping vegetables and fruits and measuring spices.
• Preparing salads and salad dressings and if needed, supporting the chefs with some basic cooking and finishing dishes.
• Discarding all expired and spoiled food items stored in the stock rooms, refrigerators and freezers.
• Following instructions for plating and garnishing dishes.
• Assisting with dish washing and cleaning of the cooking stations.
• Monitoring the inventory levels, ensuring ingredients are available when needed and notifying the (Demi) Chef de Partie of any shortages or needs for replenishment.
• Maintaining a clean and organized workspace, including cleaning kitchen equipment, utensils and work areas.

Who are we looking for?

• Some experience in a kitchen environment.
• Basic knowledge of cooking techniques, kitchen equipment and food health and safety regulations.
• Ability to work fast and efficiently.
• Being able to communicate in English.
• Able to work in a team and independently.
• Willingness to learn and improve culinary skills, techniques and knowledge.
• Being flexible and able to work under pressure.
• Having a good work ethic and attention to detail.
• Willing to work flexible hours (evenings, weekends, holidays).
